About Michael Hall

Known for his infectious enthusiasm, engaging stage presence, and expressive musicianship, Maestro Michael Hall currently serves as Music Director of the Brandywine Valley Symphony in Pennsylvania and the Prince George Symphony Orchestra in British Columbia, Canada, as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the Space Coast Symphony in Florida. Previously, Hall has held positions as Music Director of the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, Associate Conductor of the Pacific Symphony in California, Resident Conductor of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and Assistant Conductor of the Havant Symphony Orchestra in the UK.

Hall has appeared with many of today’s leading ensembles, including the Houston Symphony, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Toledo Symphony, Windsor Symphony, Okanagan Symphony, Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, Great Falls Symphony, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Guelph Symphony Orchestra, and Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Costa Rica. He has also enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the Tucson Symphony, appearing regularly across multiple concert series.

Hall is especially passionate about developing innovative concert experiences that break down perceived barriers to classical music. To this end he has launched a reimagined concert format: a one-hour, informal, and accessible event featuring a major work presented alongside musical insights, video elements, and live examples, with the audience seated in the round and offered food and drink.

A dedicated advocate for music education, Hall has conducted numerous college and youth orchestras, including the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. He served as Visiting Guest Artist and Conductor-in-Residence at Ball State University’s School of Music in 2012–13, and as Visiting Guest Professor at Ithaca College’s School of Music in 2016–17.

Hall holds a Master’s degree in Conducting from the University of Michigan, where he studied with Gustav Meier, and a Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he worked with Sir Colin Davis. He was a finalist in the Besançon International Conducting Competition and was awarded Third Prize at the Cadaqués Orchestra International Conducting Competition in Spain.

Away from the podium, Hall lives in Pennsylvania with his wife, freelance hornist Jen French. He enjoys hiking, reading, and playing the piano.
